  But the couple joked that he needed the cash prize for the ring and embraced after the match

Professional wrestler Joey Ryan surprised his girlfriend by proposing in the middle of a San Diego match that had the couple facing off against each other.

Laura James had just sent her boyfriend to the ground with a kick to his head when he decided it was the perfect time to pop the question at their Finest City Wrestling intergender match.

As Laura turned around to check on the referee her boyfriend had thrown her into only seconds before, Joey managed to pull out the ring and a microphone before falling to one knee.

Laura, still catching her breath, looks at him in shock, a smile immediately spreading to her face.


'We've been talking about this so much that this was the only way to surprise you,' Joey explains.

'Laura Clare James, I love you with all my heart.'

He then pulls out the ring and before he can even ask she screams 'Yes!' as the crowd also starts cheering 'yes! yes! yes!'

The couple embrace and kiss as he puts the ring on her finger. But Joey, still on the job, then grabs his girlfriend and sends her to the ground, managing to gain not only a fiancee but a win in the ring.
